Everybody knows…

Trouble Cuts MRBeen taking my time on this one, procrastinating as usual…crazy cuz I loves me some Trouble Cuts. In this case, I’m having hard time thinking of objective things to say, as this is my buddy’s band and I’m jaded having been a fan of his music for 30 years.   On top of that dude is an amazing human being and a dedicated artist…I love the guy and I have to be honest, this 7″ fucking rocks!  As with anything that Señor Cole is involved in, he surrounds himself with only the bestest jammin’ partners and similarly cool mofos…Kiley and Jonno fit bill precisely…they round out this trio and rock the fuck out. This is rock n roll people, in case you haven’t heard what it’s supposed to be in 2019, this Portland three-piece (not one dude is from there…hahaaha), nail it. Toe tappin’ head bobbin’ and dancin’ are allowed. They aren’t imitating a sound, these guys have so much experience separately in some pretty great acts and I imagine the list of influences would be awfully long.  Trouble Cuts have a solid sound of their own, but they pay homage to rock n roll’s long. The music make me feel good. This thing is so catchy (done this a few times with music Ed has been involved with), I warn you now that you are going to get hooked right the fuck in and will be at the mercy of Trouble Cuts…seriously easy to get stuck in your noggin.   Here’s them doing the A-side live at a small gathering somewhere’s…

If’n you’re inclined to pick ya a copy of the 7″ (the B-side is a keeper too), I’m telling you it’s high level stuff (forgive the D&D reference), go see the cool cats at Lava Socks Records!

Btw, I don’t know why they are called Trouble Cuts, but I have a theory on it’s meaning…it’s when you get in trouble with the law and you have to cut your hair to disguise yourself…trouble cut. Also, btw, as I said I’ve been a fan of Ed’s music for an eternity and his solo stuff is no joke…get this one caught in your head if you dare (word around the campfire is, if you go see Trouble Cuts live, they may do their own rendition of this one)…

it’s Friday…

The most involved animated GIF I’ve every made, not sure it turned out as cool as I thought it would. Really just a reminder of how cool of a band Lord Ellis is. They’re touring the northwest next month so go see em if you can…wish I could…get the taste that I got —> HERE

AD Rock – Frontline @ CBGB by Freddy Alva “Urban Style”…this is me on Friday’s usually but didn’t feel all that great this week and left early today.  Thinking about it in between naps, I am truly grateful to my Union ancestors for giving us things like paid sick leave.  If you deny this, then you don’t know your history and if you’re one of those tools that says that Unions are corrupt, don’t belong to a Union today.  Pictured is my Grandpa at his retirement (on the left) with his Union president. Thanx Grandpa! Love that guy…

My pal and co-worker Kelly was the only one on time for a meeting we were having the other day and when I came in seeing her sitting there by herself it made this song pop in my head (the ultimate in 70s self pity). We both wondered who sang it and of course the answer was at our finger tips instantly with the tree of knowledge and wisdom, that is the modern day cell phone.  Apparently it was written by Eric Carmen and Rachmaninoff, and Carmen…too much information, huh?
When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
Living alone
I think of all the friends I’ve known
But when I dial the telephone
Nobody’s home
All by myself
Don’t want to be all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to live all by myself anymore
Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And love so distant and obscure
Remains the cure
All by myself
Don’t want to be all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to live all by myself anymore
When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
All by myself
Don’t want to be all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to live all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to be all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to live all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t want to be all by myself anymore

Experimentation with drugs (which of course includes alcohol) was the thing growing up for me and a lot of other folks I seemed to find myself around. Never tried crack or ecstasy, but that was a fluke because I tried and probably abused everything else. All I have to say about the needle is that it’s no bueno when you go down that road, serious as Osama bin Laden, shit is going to go down…
I caught you knockin’ at my cellar door
“I love you, baby. Can I have some more?”
Ooh, ooh, the damage done
I hit the city and I lost my band
I watched the needle take another man
Gone, gone, the damage done
I sing the song, because I love the man
I know that some of you don’t understand
Milk-blood to keep from running out
I’ve seen the needle and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie’s like a settin’ sun

Big fan of the show and always wondered if they had some punk acts. Turns out The Rezillos played The Old Grey Whistle Test on 09/26/78…I discovered punk rock a year later…pretty bitchen stuff…

The almighty Weedeater on the tour van…RIP Carlos.

Been dying to interview my old pal and first San Diego friend, Chris Squire, AKA Billy Druid, but never have taken the time to nail down a list of questions, will have to change that soon! I’ve been a huge fan of his Billy Druid project for a while now, there may even be a post or two with a song or two. Whatcha get is one man band Chris (dude has been a thousand bands), with him doing all the instruments, vox, recording and mixing and whatnot…pretty incredible all around song…
Wake up!
Look around
Rouse the rabble cos the future’s now
Watch the upper crust fall
From the highest towers
Under crumbling walls
Or be burned by her fire
She’s a torch
She’s a torch
From somewhere higher
And the world will bleed
Rivers of blood from her wrath and fury
Goddess of FIRE!!
Get up!
Or get burned
She’s molten hot so you better learn
Stay by her side
Or be left behind
With the rubble and the scorched debris
She’ll set you free!
You’ll see
She’s a 21st century Aphrodite
Atomic blaster
Queen of disaster
She is your God and Master
Goddess of FIRE!!
And if the world should burn tonight
Something tells me it’s alright
Yeah the world could burn tonight
But something makes me feel alright
Cos the future looks out of sight
We’re all blinded by the light

Lord Ellis – live on Lost Coast Sessions 09/08/18

Fetal nazi or stoner fetus? Crazy country I live in right now, you just never know what the hell is going to pop up as news has become reality TV. And this “fake” news is bullshit (except for fucking Fox? …yeah right!), when in reality news has always been a commodity, for fucking sale. It’d be funny if it was in somewhere else but it’s not…crazy shit. Any of you folks from around the globe that come here, care to comment on what it’s like to be on the outside looking in..what’s your impression based on your own media of the state of affairs of the so-called greatest nation on the planet…hahahaha?

Groucho don’t like nazis.  They’ve always been here but they seem to have a free pass to show their ugly little faces, publicly, lately…they aren’t hiding under hoods anymore.  Whatever, the price of freedom (yeah, right), just stay off my lawn.  I was talking to my bud Darryl about a sort of a shit or get off the pot kind of thing, voting. If you’re gonna subscribe to the whole democratic process, even as all through the south they are closing voting locations, voting should not only be easiest thing to do, totalitarianly  speaking, it should be fucking required.  Like they send you a ballot in the mail and if you don’t vote, or at least send back a blank form, you get a 10% penalty on your tax return.  I don’t know…like I said, shit or get off the pot…your either going to do your civic duty or you’re going to be satisfied with a theocratic oligarchy (big words, huh, I hope I’m using ’em right)…

Thought this was some funny shit, enough so that I made one of my world famous (tongue in cheek) animated GIFs from the vid.

Back to the grind this week and I must say, the trip must have been rejuvenating, as I have been especially productive.  The world is my oyster Brothers and Sisters…hahahaha.  As I’ve said before, this is bizarro world (Superman reference), life is a roller coaster, filled with ups and downs, and just because you’re on an up doesn’t mean it can’t go back down…just think of all the dead bodes on Mount Everest.  Tired now, the price of success, but never too tire to listen to music…shit, I go to bed with the ear buds playing music in my head. Heard this song on the radio, yesterday (I was never a disco hater, it’s part of my musical heritage)…

Yes I still smoke, despite the fact that smoking gave my Mom the cancer…is what I told the doctor at my last appointment. I did manage to go several hours without smoking while dealing with my nightmare of a flight (thanx a lot United Airlines), on that trip last week to SoCal. That’s about as good as I can do, I’m barely past admitting I have a problem in the 12 step thing. Also, too fucked up in the head to take that Chantix shit, which would only fuck me up more…suicidal thoughts (been there, done that), who needs that, smoking is slow suicide.  Smoking and COPD, headshrinker shit (yeah, your head’s messed up sometimes too, don’t lie), my back (bulging and herniated discs all over the place, my knee (ancient injury, now compounded by arthritis) and rounding it out with (painful) ingrown toenails…the old lady says I’m falling apart…keep a grin!

The almighty Lord Ellis live (the link is only good till next month sometime, but I did manage to record all 2gb of it, so if you are nostalgic like me and you subscribe to posterity, there might be a way to share it…maybe these Lost Coast Sessions folks will do the right thing and have an archive, this is their first episode). Sadly, this may be the only way I get to see them live…you too?

overwhelmingly overwhelmed…

There is no good way to die, as my Grandpa is fond of telling me, “I want to die in my sleep”. Suicide though, is an ugly way to die, something at a couple points in my life I seriously contemplated, but pretty goddamned stoked I didn’t do (alcoholism ain’t no fucking joke, man). Walk a mile in my shoes (and you’ll get athletes foot) and all that. You never know what your capable of until you find yourself in particular circumstances and as I said before, everybody’s threshold for pain is different. Was talking to a buddy of mine about hard times real and perceived. Does anybody feel good about shit all the time? When you’re down, the natural response, it seems like, is for people to tell you it’s temporary, life is filled with ups and downs. I would like to be that person that tells you, when things are good, it’s temporary, life is filled with ups and downs…hahahah. It’s all relative anyway, right?  In all fucking seriousness, if you have reached that point call someone and get help, if you have a plan you are in particularly bad shape, please call…

My wife and I are both music lovers, but while I consider myself more eclectic, she pretty much is a hairmetal fan who recently discovered rap. I don’t know. Did overhear what she was listening to tonight while surfing fucking youtube and this song came on…classic 70s bar tune…
Ozark Mountain Daredevils – If You Wanna Get to Heaven
Does this constitute “southern fried rock” B?
Was talking to another buddy about this good looking 70s couple, in the form of Gregg Allman and Cher.  They did several songs together, pretty tame singer songwriter type stuff, I like their version of the classic 1962 Smokey Robinson tune You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me.
It’s funny for some reason I while contemplating the topic of southern rock, I thought of the immensely epic, Day After Sabbath blog. If you like what the title suggests then that is THE place to go. Hadn’t been there in a while, still apparently alive and kicking, last post was 07.09.18. Did a quick search for “Southern Rock” on the blog and sure enough I encountered The Day After Sabbath #65 “Southern Heaven”! In that post Rich Aftersabbath writes that, “Gregg Allman commented once that “Southern rock” was a redundant term, like “rock rock”…hahaha. On the comp he presents to us in that post the first monster of a tune you get…
Point Blank – Tattooed Lady

You ever get goose bumps listening to a good tune? A whole fucken set of goosebumps when I saw these guys. This here show in LA was just a few weeks ago…
