Kicked in the Teeth…

I liked old Clint in this movie (if you’ve been around for awhile that should be painfully obvious), but really the better movie, western wise for me, and also featuring Chief Dan George, is Little Big Man. Probably have mentioned that before, but sometimes that needs to be done. There’s been a Dustin Hoffman deluge on satellite lately or maybe it was just that they were playing Rain Man over and over again (sometimes that needs to be done). Good flick but it romanticizes those with developmental disabilities. I have been in the field for 15 years and have never run across a savant. The reality is that they’re just like any human being with light and dark sides…we praise and encourage the light, but scratch our heads trying to figure out the hell to do with the dark

Had a hankering for some Sleaford Mods and this was the first tune (one of my faves) that popped up in a general search on the fucking tube…

…and then BAM(!), this recent live set that I had never seen before with oodles of tunes I was not familiar with…

Zeke is one of those bands that are just easy to get into in my opinion.  They are nestled somewhere in between straight ahead hardcore punk and solid hard rock.  One of the more popular bands, so that may be a turn off to some, but there’s no denying they are extremely talented.  They had been a “big” act on Epitaph and are actually now on Relapse which in itself may be a turn off, but who cares really.  These guys have an energy that is difficult to match.  I got into them when they first started in the early 90’s (thanx to Sang) and then forgot about them until recently.  We have this sort of hard rock thing going around the house because that’s what my wife and I have in common as far as music.  These guys were a little too hardcore for her taste.  There’s something about the short fast songs with almost no breaks in between tracks that appeals to me.  The fact still remains though that these guys are a pretty popular band.  Even Country Music Television has a page on them, HERE. These two are some of my faves by the band, the first two songs off the album Kicked In The Teeth…
God of GSXR
Telepath Boy
…a very nice little vid…

So then my Bro Brian goes and sees Zeke with the almighty Weedeater in Seattle @ The Crocodile on the 3rd…how fucking cool is that? A bit of jealousy and envy that Zeke was playing with Weedeater on this tour (dudes are perpetually on tour), but Brian did us a solid and brought back evidence of his whereabouts proof of better living…go-see-bands-play-live!

Acute…

My pal Batguano over at Fugitive Equilibrium hasn’t posted since June of 2014, damn almost 4 years now, I miss his site, his insight and his ability to pluck gems out of outer space.  Back in 2011 he featured this Japanese outfit and sometimes the Japanese just have a knack for putting their own spin on hard music.  I won’t try to regurgitate what Mr. Batguano wrote, here is what he wrote…

“Acute is a contender for my favorite Japanese woman-fronted band since The Comes. Chairmaker sent me rips of this gorgeous 7” a while back, and I knew at once I would have to get a hardcopy. The band has somewhat “loungy” tendencies; I’m basing this mainly on the incredible layout, the flat notes on the more melodic vocals, and the otherwise out of place “outro.” Be that as it may, 90% of this thing is runaway bullet train, blood sweat and mucus hardcore played fast and tight. If anyone knows where to get more material by this band, please comment before my ears bleed from looping these four songs.”

Here was my comment…

“Right from the start, blown away. Not to generalize but how the hell do the Japanese do it? …and yet this is HIGHLY original…and infectious. Thanx for the rip Batguano-san.”

Then, also in the comments of that post, the drunken hearted punk, offered up Life Conception a comp featuring bands from the Nagoya-Chukyo area of Japan. The first two songs are immense Acute songs, and really the whole comp is excellently varied…

And then, Tabloid Poison commented that there was another early Acute CD available, but that link is dead, so I found it at the degenerik666 blog

They also have three songs on the Okazaki City Triangle Split Attack CD…

Assück – Discography CD

Four extreme bands that hit me like a ton of bricks in the late 80’s, Napalm Death, Fear of God, Infest and motherfucking Assück!  Finally an Assück discography is available…or it was was. Started this post when I found out that a discography CD was being made, then today went back to the bandcamp that was doing it and found this caption, “UNAVAILABLE, mis-authorized and redacted out of respect.” So, NOT! There must be a story behind that. But the tunes are still there at this point for your listening pleasure…

Melt-Banana Monday

At work today, I greeted every person on the phone with “Happy Monday!” They all responded with a short subdued laugh and then on to the business at hand. My second statement should have been, “have you ever listened to Melt-Banana?” One of many bands I regret not seeing, but I have listened to a fuck of a lot of their music. At one point I was trying to collect all their vinyl, but there’s a shit ton. Anyway, this isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned how radical they are and probably won’t be the last. Ran across these early raw as fuck vids and thought they were worth passing on…

Infest

jakub-rozalski-santa-vs-krampus-process4You know, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but for most people I encounter there is no doubt. I have a feeling that if I could possibly have a chance to become acquainted with everyone on this overpopulated dying planet, there would be very few that I would want to encounter more than once. I’m like this sober Bukowski who can’t stand humanity, but relies upon it for so much.  As of the moment, this is what comes to mind at 3:37 AM, the morning after Christmas…damn 2016 was quite a year and ended with a bang.

My old Brother Shawn turned me onto this fucking insane artist Jakub Rozalski who painted the Krampus above, which is actually a detail of a much bigger piece. He’s quite prolific, go to his page and check out his incredible art.

…and now just because I feel like it, early Infest (about the time that I was getting into them)…
