Chasm in my mind…

Not sure if I shared this story or not, but in the late 90s I worked for the grounds department in the wonderful town of Lemon Grove, California (east of San Diego). Did everything your can imagine that it takes to maintain fairly large city parks. For the most part it was the bathrooms that were a real drag…use your imagination as far as the sights and smells you might encounter in a public restroom (shit, puke, blood), then multiply that by 100. Everything was concrete and stainless steel, and there was a drain in the floor, so basically disinfectant and a hose could do the job (unless there was graffiti), but watch out for that splash-back. Equally disgusting and disturbing was finding used condoms, mostly in the parking lot, inevitably accompanied by an empty bottle of hooch (usually Mad Dog). What the fuck do you do with a used condom, ya know…

“My special little used condom
you slimy sack of wasted seed”

Planning another attempt at a professionally dupe and printed compilation CDr, this time an all Humboldt 80s & 90s thing. I went to Humboldt State University and lived in Humboldt County from ’87 to ’94…some of the best years of my life (although being in my late teens/early 20s it was bound to be wild no matter where I was at because I was game for anything…in fact I was a heartbeat away from going to the university in Syracuse, New York). Anyway, the music scene in Humboldt during that time was amazing and come to find out prior to and after that was sick as fuck as well. The comp will be 41 bands from that extended time period and any proceeds from the sales of that will be donated to a local detox/rehab type place in Eureka run by an old Humboldt head, John McManus. More details to come…

What a drag it is getting old…indeed! I myself am not doing it gracefully, but only 50% can be attributed to years of abuse, the other 50% has to do with the sedentary lifestyle I choose to have today. Anyway, best live version of the the song I’ve ever heard…

My pal Mike sent me his latest sick-ass compositions. Mike is half of HAU a duo that has been featured here before (still going strong) and I couldn’t be more stoked that he thought of the Relics. What can you say except…tribal as fuck, with a twist…a must listen! I tripped out grooving to it the first time, spaced hard just feeling the rhythm…ya know?

Miss my Moms still! Another one of those 70s classics that remind me of her 73 bug and listening to whatever on the AM radio…cruising with Mom, not a care in the world…

Never really knew the lyrics to the song, bits and pieces really…I thought when they sang “jasmine” they were instead singing “chasm”…hahahhaha

See the curtains hangin’ in the window
In the evening on a Friday night
A little light a-shinin’ through the window
Lets me know everything’s all right

Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowin’ through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowin’ though the jasmine in my mind

See the paper layin’ on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walk on up to the doorstep
Through the screen and across the floor

Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowin’ through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowin’ through the jasmine in my mind

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine’s in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune
And I come home from a hard day’s work
And you’re waitin’ there
Not a care in the world

See the smile awaitin’ in the kitchen
Through cookin’ and the plates for two
Feel the arms that reach out to hold me
In the evening when the day is through

Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Tell dem already, we have to tell dem again…

My younger Granddaughter and I at the Tex-Mex restaurant that my older Granddaughter worked at. Neither one of my Granddaughters really dig where I’m coming from musically, even though I have extremely broad taste and appreciation, they are both exclusively top 40 pop fans. I am glad that at least they like some kind of music, have hope for them to grow and actually the older one when presented with a live set of the Viagra Boys, told me she kind of, liked them. I don’t care what genre you pick, fucking polka for all I care, you have to respect that someone is doing something creative. Having played in bands for a brief period, I understand the effort and risk that goes into creating songs. I also understand what it’s like to be at the very foot of the mountain of musical success, playing parties and small gigs…not really trying to be successful at anything but having a good time along the way.

Fucking eh, when you talk about top 5 metal bands for me in the pan-genre of metal, you got Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Venom, Weedeater and Dead Horse. Like all those bands, when I was first exposed to them, Dead Horse was a mind blower (shit will make even the baldest motherfucker grow lovely long locks). Pretty sure I’ve mentioned these guys a time or two and how Ron Kuka (RIP) and Bob Kasitz turned me onto them along with a slew of other greats from the late 80’s and early 90s. Dead horse did a 2020 remix of their first album and it’s absolutely scorching…this has always been my fave tune…

A couple of badass Armenian gals from 1895…just love this photo and wish that perhaps I could have shared a cup of coffee with them.

The Bern has an anime! I know folks have their opinions on the man and his philosophy and my own opinions are pretty whacked out to most, but he reminds me of my Grandpa in a few ways, which makes him cool to me.

My virtual pal Björn during the COVID thing has been listening to his record collection alphabetically and has been letting me know where he’s at with various selections. The other day he hit the Saints and what a perfect place to be…such a kick ass band! I haven’t heard this song in 30 years…
