Mustard living (1000th post)…

Mustard Relics headquarters…
The old lady takin the dogs for a drive in my truck…”ya like dags?” (name that flick) Mr. Pickles in the passenger seat and if you look closely you can see Grizzly Bear between the seats…
I’m not very good but it sure is fun to paint…
Our old pal Bryan had this to say about the flyer above, “This is the first show I ever put on with the guidance of Steve Bohner in 1991. The flyer is a picture of my dad. He was sleeping on the couch and I stuck a cookie in his mouth. He woke up, ate the cookie and went back to sleep. I was able to snap a photo of him. He was slightly horrified when he saw the flyer on a telephone pole outside of his work in Eureka…Got my money back for the rental, traveling bands got about $60 and the locals got like $28 a band. Not bad! There was a little physical altercation between me and a rowdy, methed out Fella that was there to cause problems, though. That kind of sucked. But Doug Rogers and I got him out and the show went on.” I have very little recollection of this show…
My son and an old friend of his Meredith, going to a wedding…at 24 he’s got 10x the class that I do…love him to the moon and back!
This was a virtual affair and of course I want to support the almighty Weedeater, who I’ve seen twice and was simply blown away! https://vimeo.com/ondemand/reggies

Osao Chosei Funahara…I’m not sure I can describe it in words, but the look on his face is how I feel sometimes. Usually I’m expectedly obsessed with you know who in the Plasmatics, have been for 4 decades, but whoever took this pic really captured something…definitely a Mustard Relic!
Without a doubt my favorite artist is Nick Blinko and then a cat named Rob Middleton comes along and does this amazing tribute! Check his art and others at: https://wardance.bigcartel.com/product/international-hc-punk-black-book
If’n you are and the know and know my old pal/bandmate Erio Brown than you will know this is his mini-me Son, Tiger…slaying it just before the live music meltdown!
No idea who the artist is, but this is an instant Relic, as far as I’m concerned…
This is my most special friend, Bandit, who hides under the bed, except to eat and shit, until I myself am in bed. Of all the furry friends, she is the most like me. She’s already down 2 lives outta 9, blind in one eye and surviving some horrible ailment, that cost some serious $$$ at the vet, so she’s lost some of that curiosity and prefers to live in anonymity.
My Mom’s old Subaru and it’s trophies (relics)…
What’s there to say about the immortal Black Sabbath and more specifically, Bill Ward? Whelp…the below video just about sez it all!!!

No lives matter…

2020 has been a hard year for all of us (even for Charlie Brown and Snoopy), really bad for some folks and I gotta be honest, I feel like the worst is yet to come. There’s an apocalyptic feel in the air, like it’s the beginning of the end (of what I do not know). The fascist opportunist (this clown is all 7 deadly sins wrapped into one comb over package) vs. the neoliberal corporate whore (promising we get back to the status quo we had before the clown). It’s like we’re being tested and failing miserably, leading me to believe that we deserve our fate.

You ever wanna read a sad story, look up the story of Oliver Sipple, the dude on the far left in the above picture above, saving the life of Gerald Ford from an assassin. He died alone at 47 with a bottle of hooch by his side and nobody even noticed he was dead for two weeks…

For all these so called patriots who are claiming they know and support the constitution yet know nothing about the flag code… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code

…and then I think that I could have been born in much worse places, so why not be proud of the good old USA? How’d you like to be some kid born in Afghanistan (shit they’ve been at war since forever), not knowing if you’re gonna get blown up today. Countries though are artificial, just constructs of the ruling class, to divvy up the spoils…not so different from mobsters dividing up cities into territories. Ahhhh, shit, I did it again and got to preaching politics…apologies to my Relics! I did want to share with you a response I made on FB, to some troll going on about how the virus was intentionally released by WHO just to fuck the election up (I don’t know and at this point I don’t care where it came from…I’m concerned about our response)…”Just to put the facts straight, I was abducted by aliens last year and they told me this was coming. It was a test to see if we would choose love or hate during dire times and we failed miserably. It is the culmination of a 100,000 year experiment. Time and again, we have chosen greed over generosity, selfishness over benevolence and easily dissuaded from doing that which is right. If we can’t collectively change that then we deserve our fate, we are not a viable species. I hope the cockroach people that will replace us in a couple of million years will fare better.” Instead I will preach the gospel of music, which is what I set out do do with MR originally (pardon this old man). Listening to this song in my early 20s I didn’t appreciate the greatness of Neil (hippy music, right?), when in fact I was Neil in this song. Dude is amazing in this live vid…

Got a wild hair and put Black Sabbath’s first record on the old turntable…my copy has seen better days, having been spun quite frequently over the last 40 years. My intro to the band was via my Mom’s best friend in the late 70’s and was the epic Paranoid album. After having my 10 year old mind righteously blown the fuck away by that, over the next couple years I acquired everything I could find by the band and the self titled album is my favorite…

These guys fucking rock it!

Katon of Hirax with my long time virtual pal Nik (dude is a beast and a bonafide thrash-o-holic…if you’re a fucking FB kinda person, check out Thrash Naked). Nik mentioned at Thrash Naked that Katon’s birthday was today (last week), which instantly took me back 35 years when I first heard Hirax on the legendary Anglican Scrape Attic flexi (which I may have posted at some point). This tune made me forever a Hirax fan…

Michael of Scab Queen, featured on the criminally overlooked Martyred Heretics electronic compilation that I did several years ago (still got a few copies if anyone’s interested), got a hold of me a while back about a new release. This time around he served up a “savagely beautiful” new project called Flayed God and the digital album, No Lives Matter. I swear you can hear bones ground to dust on this blackest of Black Metal offerings…

labor daze…

headbanger4This post is dedicated to my good buddy Björn (Bear) Hansson and his wonderful family.  They don’t know it yet, but if this clown in office gets what he wants and we have to suffer another 4 years of Gød knows what, I’d like to get out of here…I’ve suggested it before, I’m gonna need a couch to sleep on…hahahahah.  How hard is it to get a long term work visa in Sweden?  I don’t know a lick of Swedish except Smörgåsbord…but I think if I learn, “yes”, “no” and “fuck off” that would cover the basics.  In all reality, I would probably just stay here in NoWhere Kansas here on the farm and if it get’s real bad where ever you’re at you can always come here and help me hold down the fort.  Beware fascists, the old lady is a better shot than I am…hahaahhah.

Do they play reruns of The original Addams Family in Sweden (or wherever you are in the world)?  Man, as a kid I had the biggest crush on Morticia…I love how in this rad video, she enters and before addressing Lurch, dismisses Wednesday…dance motherfucker dance!

Spinning on at least one very special virtual turntable in Sweden is this tune…Björn you have incredible taste in music, man!

Thanx Big Shawn for the Labor Day reminder, I hope y’all had a wonderful day off and at least, for a moment, remembered your working ancestors.
