Dumb & DumberSick as a dog friends, been completely floored for over a week. Haven’t been this ill since the dope sick days detoxing off liquor…the malias (my brethren, I hope you weren’t ever in that awful position or if so you are safe and sound on the other side of it).  Even managed to have a few feverish hallucinations…now that’s the shit.  Back to work, with a vengeance I hope, at least one that lasts me most of the day.  So much shit going on in my life, but spend all day dealing with other people’s shit, because it’s too much for them to handle.  It takes a lot to live in this world, we’re a long ways from hunter/gatherer or are we just hunting and gathering still…I don’t know enough and I doubt knowing would make life any better. I did read this…Death metal attracts sharks as it mimics “struggling fish”! I love that, struggling fish, aren’t we all? It got me off on a virtual tangent there reading about the short history of Death Metal and I all of a sudden felt like listening to this tune…

2019 DarrylMy pal Darryl doing a damn fine job keeping the germs out of his life. Everybody has been sick, clients and staff alike, with no impunity…it rains on both the good and the evil. We were chatting the other evening and after a particularly satisfying meal he indicated that he was like a stuffed little tick. That was good for a hearty chuckle and left me pondering the broader meaning of a stuffed little tick. Aren’t those fat cats sitting at the top kinda like that at this point in time, the soil is ripe in America (and really the whole world) to be a stuffed little tick. Then we moved on to biblical topics and he springs Isaiah 45:7 on me, “Forming light, and preparing darkness, Making peace, and preparing evil, I [am] Jehovah, doing all these things.” Heavy! Then off on a tangent again reading apologetic commentary…God’s not such a bad guy, is he? I suppose the way I look at it is that good and evil are human constructs and have nothing to do with the universe and how it operates. We are just specks on a speck on a speck, a tiny little nothing in the great infinity, so we may as well enjoy our existence.  Then he springs something else on me, you guys ever heard of this…Dark Side of the Rainbow? He got a chuckle at my expense on this one because I am a self proclaimed music lover but have never heard of this connection between the original Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon…tripoutonthis…

Lets tripoutonthis some more and end this nonsense with some new fucking Lee Hardcastle! You can’t go wrong with this genius artist…

take those problems far far away from me…far far away

Some pals of mine rockin it out a couple weeks ago up in Humboldt County…not sure who the Swedish lookin guy is blocking Jeff but he’s got the groove and knows how to support a good band (as I watch from the back of the room…hahahah)…GoAways.

One of the comments on the vid below…”I play this song driving the city streets in Chicago…people start dancing when they hear this!! How can you NOT stand up and dance to this!??? :)))) Wow!!!” Omar is the Emperor of Syrian wedding singers and the dude on the keys is an absolute beast. You will thoroughly enjoy this if you are a music lover, even more so the musicianship should impress anybody who has picked up an instrument but if you’re not open to the beauty that can be found in parts of the Islamic world…well, I can’t help ya then

not dumb areaNot saying I’m some kind of genius, but damn it there are some people that lack common sense in this world, and they’re breathing the same air I am. To say education is important, is such an understatement because it gets into the fabric of the machine in which we’re stuck, unless we educate ourselves (and even then we’re probably just fooling ourselves when we think we can live outside the machine). Do they even teach critical thinking anymore…a little logic goes a long way, you know.  Stacks of snakes in tubes right Shawn?  Or how about ethics, do they teach that any more…we can’t even treat other human being with decency. Makes me think of Frank Zappa’s Dumb All Over (which I may have posted before, but now’s as good a time as any for some regurgitation)…
Whoever we are
Wherever we’re from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It’s gonna take a lot more
Than tryin’ to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether
They call it THE EARTH
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
‘Cause we behave the same…
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near’n far
Dumb all over
Black ‘n white
People, we is not wrapped tight
Nerds on the left
Nerds on the right
Religious fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin’ the Bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
‘Bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Don’t believe in the book
We got over here
You can’t run a race
Without no feet
‘N pretty soon
There won’t be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it won’t blow up
‘N disappear
It’ll just look ugly
For a thousand years…)
You can’t run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state
Hooray! That’s great
Two legs ain’t bad
Unless there’s a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get down!)
Not his, not hers (but what the hey?)
The Good Book says:
“It’s gotta be that way!”
But their book says:
With whips ‘n chains
‘N hand grenades. . .”
Have another and another
Our Cod says:
“There ain’t no other!”
Our Cod says
“It’s all okay!”
Our God says “This is the way!”
It says in the book:
“Burn ‘n destroy. ..
‘N repent, ‘n redeem
‘N revenge, ‘n deploy
‘N rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
‘Cause they don’t go for what’s in the book
‘N that makes ’em BAD
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb
To poof them out of existence
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise OURGOD
(“Cause he can really take care of business!”)
And when his humble TV servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our God says
It’s okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
‘Cause if we don’t do it,
We ain’t gwine up to hebbin!
(Depending on which book you’re using at the time…
Can’t use theirs. . .it don’t work . . .it’s all lies…Gotta use mine…)
Ain’t that right?
That’s what they say
Every night…
Everyday. ..
Hey, we can’t really be dumb
If we’re just following
God’s Orders
Hey, let’s get serious…
God knows what he’s doin’
He wrote this book here
An’the book says:
He made us all to be just like Him,”
If we’re dumb…
Then God is dumb…
(An’ maybe even a little ugly on the side)

Plague Dogs 2Name that flick!

Was thinking I hadn’t made an animated GIF in a minute and this was the first flick to use that came to mind.  I love my dogs (“Dags? D’ya like dags?” name that flick…ANSWER) and being loved, it’s amazing how much they’re a part of my life. We have three at the moment, it’s almost been four several times but that’s just too much. Like kids is what they’re commonly compared to and I suppose that works in general, but I like to think of them as more like a sunrise and a sunset. Below is a recent pic of my Son Liam with his dog Babs and his new ride…
2019-02 Liam and Babs

Not sure what made me end up with finding this tune but it’s a 1972 Seattle scorcher, some call them proto-grunge. I’d be interested in someone’s opinion on that, they’re definitely proto-something…

JPGFirst off wanted to thank a former Humboldt County resident, Nate for sending me off on a JPG tangent.  I’m not just a mp3 collector, I do have several thousand records, cassettes and CDs, I do support the bands, but when there is no other option sometimes all that exists is digital.  In fact, I am not a fan of digital only releases, but I guess whatever puts some money in an artist’s pocket is a good thing (cuz after all don’t we all just want to be able to support ourselves through our art…note, I have no artistic skills).  I had posted on the Humboldt Punk page that I was looking to make a compilation of as many punk(ish) bands as possible from that region over the last 40+ years.  Nate was the only one who came to my aid and thanx to his 2000s additions the number of bands is up to 113.  Among the bands/folks he blew me away with, damn there was some good shit during that era (hopefully posting soon), is JPG.  This guy is the bomb when it comes to his special brand of electronic/rap/something or other.  No matter what you stamp it, it’s highly original/unusual.  Not sure if he did all the producing or what the deal is (Nate did say it was not well received at first up there), but I’ve had this song stuck in my head off and on for a couple of weeks now (dig it or don’t)…

JPG - No Social Skillz

Everybody knows…

Trouble Cuts MRBeen taking my time on this one, procrastinating as usual…crazy cuz I loves me some Trouble Cuts. In this case, I’m having hard time thinking of objective things to say, as this is my buddy’s band and I’m jaded having been a fan of his music for 30 years.   On top of that dude is an amazing human being and a dedicated artist…I love the guy and I have to be honest, this 7″ fucking rocks!  As with anything that Señor Cole is involved in, he surrounds himself with only the bestest jammin’ partners and similarly cool mofos…Kiley and Jonno fit bill precisely…they round out this trio and rock the fuck out. This is rock n roll people, in case you haven’t heard what it’s supposed to be in 2019, this Portland three-piece (not one dude is from there…hahaaha), nail it. Toe tappin’ head bobbin’ and dancin’ are allowed. They aren’t imitating a sound, these guys have so much experience separately in some pretty great acts and I imagine the list of influences would be awfully long.  Trouble Cuts have a solid sound of their own, but they pay homage to rock n roll’s long. The music make me feel good. This thing is so catchy (done this a few times with music Ed has been involved with), I warn you now that you are going to get hooked right the fuck in and will be at the mercy of Trouble Cuts…seriously easy to get stuck in your noggin.   Here’s them doing the A-side live at a small gathering somewhere’s…

If’n you’re inclined to pick ya a copy of the 7″ (the B-side is a keeper too), I’m telling you it’s high level stuff (forgive the D&D reference), go see the cool cats at Lava Socks Records!

Btw, I don’t know why they are called Trouble Cuts, but I have a theory on it’s meaning…it’s when you get in trouble with the law and you have to cut your hair to disguise yourself…trouble cut. Also, btw, as I said I’ve been a fan of Ed’s music for an eternity and his solo stuff is no joke…get this one caught in your head if you dare (word around the campfire is, if you go see Trouble Cuts live, they may do their own rendition of this one)…
